Weaving 50 Years

Over the past 50 years, the Fourth Street Photo Gallery has been the vessel of many different art forms.  There have been exhibits by artists varying from those that are finding their footing, to veteran creatives coming back home to breathe.  Works were curated by Alex Harsley from a wide range of styles and techniques.  From the February 1991 photographic exhibit by Alfred Olusegun Fayemi titled “From Africa and Beyond: A Portrait of the Black Peoples of Africa and the African Diaspora,” to the August 2000 exhibit by Street Installation artist Curtis Cuffie titled “Heaven is under your Feet,” no art form was considered out of bounds.

With every exhibit, the reach of the Fourth Street Photo Gallery expanded into the varying groups of people attracted by each genre, and they kept coming back to experience something new the next time.

Do you remember a past exhibit that struck you, and enchanted you to return for more?  Have you had an exhibit at the Fourth Street Photo Gallery that you would like to reminisce and share your thoughts?  We want to hear from you and compile a memoir exploring the interactions of Alex Harsely and the Fourth Street Photo Gallery over the course of these monumental 50 years of existence in New York City.
